Blending In
Van nature trekken mensen en reportages mij het meest, wanneer ik fotografeer. De mens in hun natuurlijke habitat. Maar wat is natuurlijk? En welke rol speelt plastic daar vandaag de dag in? In mijn studiofoto’s zie je daarom plastic gebruiksvoorwerpen, en hun meer duurzame evenknieën. De andere beelden zijn gemaakt tijdens mijn reis naar Gambia, waar de levensstandaard duidelijk afwijkt van wat wij in het westen gewend zijn. Geen afvalinzameling en recycling, dus plastic (en ander afval) lijkt een vanzelfsprekend onderdeel van de menselijke habitat geworden.
Humans and a journalistic style attract me most, when photographing. Humans in their natural habitat. But what is natural? And what role does plastic play nowadays? That’s why you will see plastic items in my studio pictures, with their more durable ‘natural’ partners. The other images were shot during my trip in The Gambia, where the standard of living is noticeably different than what we are used to in ‘the west’. No garbage collection or recycling, so plastic (and other trash) seems to have become an obvious part of the human habitat.
